The Chinese United Democratic Party Kuomintang and Chinese Overseas Parties met amid word of a possible alliance.
Chai Ling at the People’s Party national convention had a violent migraine and could not deliver her keynote address.
controversially the moderately Islamist and separatist East Turkestan National Front has been allowed to run as qualified write ins for the Xinjiang list which they are expected to do very well in. The People’s Party CCP and the Labor Party have agreed not to run candidates and to endorse the candidates of the moderate Regionalist “Minority List” a coalition of various regionalist parties.
Meanwhile the CCP sorta figures out what they are even supposed to be they eventually decide on a few core ideas those are as their constitution says
“Social Respect” which basically means
“Welfarism with a focus on the elderly”“Socialism” which basically means
“Extremely light Maoist rhetoric but please never speak of Deng again”
“Revolutionary Tradition” which basically means “Please don’t prosecute or fire any of us”
The New Political Project forms out of a convention in Shenzhen mostly out of low level CCP officials Deng fired.
Meanwhile the HNPA had their convention and they had a surprisingly boring convention it seems like they are trying to act very normally they even promised economic reform and maternity leave two slightly more liberal policies but they pass their brutal anti separatist and anti Taiwan planks.
The Tibetan election preparations are much rockier then other provinces a separatist party has filed called Buddha Home did file but they were rejected so they filed again under the name Tibetan Home and were accepted but then rejected again but only with some ballots. Also some People’s Party candidates were getting rejected and now in a third of Tibetan seats the Minority List will be the only ones on the ballot with qualified write ins in a few other district Tibetan Home in on a few and somehow the People’s Party only on in Lhasa.
So a couple weeks later the campaign officially starts it will be a month long then in November each province will have their day at the polls separately before on December 10th all the results are announced China’s first democratic election, the 1992 National People’s Congress Election has kicked off officially. Stay Tuned!
