Korea out to vote!

North Koreans came to vote today after a fragile Social Democratic government collapsed in a vote of no confidence last Christmas with Kang Hyok the elderly leader of the opposition Chondoist Chongu finally achieving his “Grand Commission” which he claimed was to take Kim Ho-chol out of power by any means necessary but it is lesser known if he will have accomplished his great commission for any time longer than the campaign period.

The Korean Social Democratic Party and especially chairman Kim Ho-chol have had a challenging run after they swept to power in a wide pro free trade coalition with the progressive United Liberal Party and the religious elderly focused Chosôn National Spring and has among other things were surprisingly reluctant to implement the trade policy they called a “Magic Wand during the previous campaign period and secularizing reforms which included ending the overtly large subsidies for Chondoist Chongu temples which critics have called gunning for the religion itself.

The campaign period has been complicated. The Chondoist Chongu Party seemingly to the chagrin of longtime chairman Kang Hyok has implemented the “New Right” Plan attempting to broaden the popularity of the party and drop the hardcore religious sectarian image the party has not unwarrantedly been known for. Much of the campaign was about the large issue of imports with the socialist Left Progressive Party’s plan to only import medicine raw materials from Russia and certain foods but not import potatoes or any other traditional North Korean product in a similar manner as Canada handles imports.

As voters went to the polls today exit and entrance polls both showed a very close race with the Chondoist Chongu Party at least 30 seats behind the Social Democrats with nearly every minor party expected to do better except for the Chosôn National Spring who was beared the brunt of their voters anger over not getting free trade done quick enough.
