Barbie is an aggressively absurdist film that creates a massive amount of complexity but barely resolves any of it. Barbie is a commentary on the modern world but it never truly makes any comments on the modern world. Barbie is social commentary without the commentary, like if Duchamp never made anything but ready mades & of course I concede that Absurdism can be a very enjoyable form of art but it can never be for long because fundamentally absurdism can fundamentally never evolve.
Barbie just like absurdism is enjoyable for some time but fundamentally it never gives anything to the consumer or watcher. It is like a candy bar it tastes quite nice but it never gives you anything. The artist is fundamentally giving himself to the consumer but absurdism severs that tender connection between the artist & the consumer.
Barbie is a fundamentally empty but sometimes enjoyable absurdist piece that has actively contributed to the death of the art world.
